Since the first lockdown in March 2020, The government have changed their stance on PPE numerous times adding and subtracting various items from here to there. We have compiled this article to help you understand what PPE is required, Why it is required and how it protects you from catching Covid-19.

When we first came back to work after the initial March 2020 lockdown, Barbershops and hair salons across the nation had a completely different look.
The warm welcoming atmosphere you usually receive took on a slightly sinister overhaul, with barbers and hairstylists donning medical grade protective equipment.
The rapid spread of Covid was being slowed but at a huge expense.. PPE was introduced and in a world where plastic has all but completely served its purpose... here we were... once again producing mass plastic. This time though it was necessary for the safety of the human race. this plastic boom was to protect us...
The items we use all serve a purpose..
We wear a Type 2 surgical face mask. This type of mask prevents large particles reaching the client and the work surfaces. Over these we also wear a clear visor. The visor protects the wearer and the client by acting as a stopper against sneezing, coughing and droplets from speaking. the two masks worn together form an excellent barrier and are the best form of protection for the client and the stylist.

Another item that some salons already had in place are gloves.. At Wiggies we only use Nitrile gloves to prevent latex allergies. Gloves are changed between each and every customer to prevent cross contamination.

You will also notice that disposable cutting capes are now a requirement. Again, these are another tool in our efforts to stop cross contamination. At Wiggies we use 1 cape per customer.

Antibacterial sprays and wipes. You will find that between customers the wait is slightly longer for you to get in our chairs.. This is because between every customer we now clean every piece of equipment even the chair! We use the best quality antibacterial wipes and sprays to clean our barber chairs making sure they are ready for you to safely be seated.

We also use a substance called Barbicide. This solution has proven to be effective against Covid 19 and this is the solution we submerge our tools in to sterilise them.

Clippercide is another Barbicide product and is what we use to clean our clippers and trimmers with.

So all of the above are now legal requirements in all barbershops and hair salons.
